Welcome to MDG Burn Recovery

August 23, 2005

Michael's progress is going as well as expected. Although circulation is slow in his right leg, he's having a skin graft done today on it. It'll be a few days while that heals and the skin has a chance to regenerate.

This will be one of the more painful surgeries as they'll be removing the finger tips today as well. Any that haven't fallen off to this point will be scraped to the bone and then wrapped to heal. While his right foot is healing well, it's still touch and go. He has to take really good care of it to keep it on track.

Physical therapy will then graduate to him working on his leg strength to get him mobile. He should be able to stand by next week, but will be in a walker for up to two months.

He's spent a lot of time watching movies and listening to music, not much else to do when you're lying in bed for months on end. Thankfully he's had a number of visitors throughout this whole ordeal. I'll add a video excerpt from him when I figure that out.

Overall, Michael's progress is phenomenal. He's ready to come home, and as that may be another 3 weeks or so, we're trying to best prepare for his arrival. He'll need ongoing support to get to and from the hospital daily and adjusting to his new environment, it all takes time. Check back Saturday for a new update regarding the most recent surgery.

We thank you for your love and support, and especially your visits.
