Michael's last few days have been rough. The healing is still going well on his hands, and there was minimal amputation needed on his right fingertips, but he gets "phantom" pains in them which are excruciating. Because the nerve endings have been severed, it will take time for those to numb out. Right now the pain just comes from out of nowhere and POW, "AHHH!" he says. His fingernails are starting to grow back little by little since the nail beds weren't taken in the amputation, but time will tell how well they return.
Michael's recovery and rehabilitation are going well; painful and time consuming, but he's making good progress every day. His right hand is healing well, but he still has minimal strength and mobility in it. He's working on holding his silverware or a toothbrush.
Small things are made quite big by the situation. He's in for a time of limited ability in one sense or another, but everything we can to make his life from here on out as comfortable as possible, I hope you'll help us maintain. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and concern.
Michael's skin grafts on the rest of his body are profusing well. He'll need to wear his garments for some time (a couple years, I think). He's also been outside, more than a few times, and has had a couple of "Leaves of abscence"(?), where he gets to leave the hospital grounds for a jaunt around town; to the IMAX theatre or dinner out.
As always, we thank you for your love and support, and especially your visits.
P.S. I forgot to post this one a few weeks ago, but here it is now that you've read it, YAY.
